Monthly Bookkeeping

Bookkeeping, tax and ACRA compliance for Singapore SMEs

Each month, we close your books. That means your accounts match what actually happened in the bank, every transaction sits in the right place, and you get a short report you can read in a few minutes. It’s the steadiest way to know how the business is doing, and the least stressful way to reach year end.

What happens each month

StepWhat we do
1Collect your bank and credit card statements, invoices and receipts
2Reconcile each account to its statement
3Code and check transactions against the documents, not just the bank description
4Track GST for the period, if you’re registered
5Record payroll and CPF entries
6Keep director and shareholder loan movements separate from business costs
7Send you a profit and loss, a balance sheet and a short note on anything unusual

Catching a duplicate payment or a miscoded cost in the month it happens takes minutes. Finding it at year end takes much longer, because you have to work out what a bank line meant eleven months ago.

Who it suits

  • Regular invoicing, several suppliers, payroll or loans
  • Owners who want a monthly view of cash and profit
  • GST-registered companies that want their returns ready on time
  • Companies that expect to grow, or are preparing for a bank or investor

Light volumes usually suit quarterly bookkeeping, and we’ll say so if that’s the better fit. If your books are behind, start with annual compilation.

How it connects to your GST

GST returns are due one month after each accounting period ends, quarterly unless IRAS has approved monthly returns. A monthly close means the figures for any return are already checked when the period ends. See GST filing.

Example (illustration only)

ABC Supplies Pte Ltd pays a supplier twice by mistake in February. In our monthly close, the reconciliation shows the second payment with no matching invoice, so we flag it in the note. The supplier credits it in March. Without a monthly close, it could have gone unnoticed until the year-end accounts.

What we need from you

  • Statements for every bank and credit card account
  • Sales and purchase invoices, and receipts
  • Payroll summaries and loan statements
  • Answers to our questions within a few days, so the close doesn’t slip

Questions people ask

What does it cost? It depends on your volume and how organised your records are. We quote after a first look.

Do I need Xero or QuickBooks? No. We can work in what you use, or help you move. See cloud accounting setup.

Can I switch to quarterly later? Yes, and back again.

Does this include my tax return? No. See corporate tax.
